COMEBACK

Boxing World . People on Jürgen's way.

What does boxing mean to your life?

“It’s a rewarding job. It’s a melting pot, I have 67 nationalities here, I have five year olds as well as 78 year olds, men and women, journalists every day ... it’s just fun!”

Bruce Silverglade . Owner of Gleason’s Gym . Brooklyn N.Y

“My mother was a concert pianist, I just went the wrong way. When I was thirteen I started boxing, I started matchmaking when I was fifteen, I was writing for two newspapers at fifteen and I promoted my first fight when I was seventeen years old. About six years ago ... No! But I’ve been in this all my life.”

Don Elbaum . Boxing Promoter and Matchmaker . Philadelphia

“Well, I’ve been in boxing about 25 years doing physicals and ring-side physician. I used to box when I was a boy. It’s fun!”

Dr. Paul Steinberg . Ringside Physician at Legendary Blue Horizon . Philadelphia

“Boxing means everything. I’ve been in boxing since I was a ten years old kid. I’m 37 years old now. I started as an amateur fighter, then became a professional fighter, got hurt, had to get out and became a cut man. I manage fighters, train fighters and you name it, I’ve done it in this business, it’s just in me. And I just keep on doing it. But the main thing I love is being a cut man, working with the fighters, and, you know, get them through the fight!”

Joeye Eye Cut . Man at Legendary Blue Horizon . Philadelphia

“Oh, it means the world to me! You know, this can feed my kids, this can give everything to me, you know, better future… better everything! Boxing is a way out of the streets, for me, that’s what I take it for…. a venture of being a pro athlete!”

Max Alexander . Fighter . New Jersey

“Boxing means a lot, because I’ve been here for so long and if I couldn’t box no more I wouldn’t know what I’d do, I’d probably kill myself.”

Sugar Boy  . 11 year old US champion in Gleason’ Gym . Brooklyn N.Y.

“It disappoints me but at the same time it’s also something that’s very special, because when you can see a young kid find himself and start to stand a little taller and start to feel a little proud of himself in a way that he never did there are not many places where you can see that. “

“There are not many sports that give that kind of opportunity where a person can actually become more sturdy, become a better person. He can get worth that he never had before. You know they think this sport is about black eyes and bloody noses, but it’s really about young kids finding themselves worth that they didn’t know even existed through the confidence and direction and the dignity that boxing, you know, places in them.”

Teddy Atlas . Pro Trainer and Boxing Commentator . Brooklyn N.Y.

“At this point boxing signifies an opportunity to offer young men and women a way out, a way up. It also offers an opportunity for young people who want to learn how the real world works.”

Vernoca Michael . President of Legendary Blue Horizon . Philadelphia

“Well, boxing is my life, it’s how I make my living. Boxing is my job. So I take it very serious.”

"Big Truck" . Ex- world- champion at Gleason’s Gym . Brooklyn N.Y

“Well, this is the first time I’ve been here. So now it might be a part of my life. I actually enjoyed it. It was an interesting experience and I met a lot cool people …”

Brook Tartarro . Actress/ Dancer/ Model – first time at Gleason’s Gym . Brooklyn N.Y
